"Genuine Homegrown Fun" - August 13 through 21, 2010

Join the State Fair of WV on August 12th from 6 to 8 pm for our 2010 State Fair Endowment fundraiser & be the 'FIRST' to experience the thrill of the Carnival Midway, sample great fair food and support youth scholarships all at the same time!

'Fun First' is an event for fair supporters of all ages! For each $50 ticket purchased, donors will receive a coupon for a casual cocktail reception, 2 food coupons that may be exchanged at a designated food concession stand for your choice of a drink, popcorn, cotton candy OR corn dog, and a wristband to be the 'FIRST' to enjoy the carnival midway!

Purchase your 'Fun First' tickets by visiting the State Fair Ticket Office Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm.

The Annual State Fair Collector's Basket is now available, along with our "Genuine Homegrown Fun" Framed Print, Print and Cookbook!

The 12th Annual, 2010 Basket is a 'Mail' basket with cottage weave in a Patriotic Theme and features a commerative brass tag, navy fabric liner with small white stars and plastic protector. The basket is approximately 8" x 5" x 5 1/2" and is 100% Handmade in the USA! Baskets are numbered and limited to only 200. Baskets are $50 a piece and may be purchased by calling or visiting the office, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. To see a picture of the basket only - please click HERE.

With over 630 recipes submitted by Fairgoers all across West Virginia, and surrounding states, we're proud to present, "Traditions You Treasure" - a cookbook full of mouth watering desserts, main dishes, appetizers and even a 'cure' for arthritis!! Cookbooks are $20 each and include helpful cooking tips, measurement conversions, memories from Fairgoers and of course loads of wonderful recipes.

"Genuine Homegrown Fun" Framed Prints will be available for sale by visiting the State Fair office and are $30 a piece. If you have been collecting prints from previous Fairs then you are sure to want this as an added piece for your collection. Unframed prints will also be available and are only $10.

For more information on any of these items, please call the Fair office, 304.645.1090. Shipping is available for the Basket and the Cookbook - ONLY. Due to the glass in the framed prints we will not be able to mail those, thank you for understanding.

First Ever State Fair of WV Rib Showdown

Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Grills!! Join us on Tuesday, August 17th for our first ever Rib Showdown. One of the top reasons that people visit the Fair is for FOOD! This year we're offering you the opportunity to impress the judges with your finest BBQ skills. Prepare slabs of pork ribs to be presented for judging and you could win the 'Blue Ribbon', along with $500 (Presented by 'Hearth & Home' by Ash's Chimney Sweep)!

Entry Fee = $100/per team

Farm Family Insurance is pleased to sponsor a hay bale contest in conjunction with the 2010 State Fair of West Virginia. This second annual event will feature an on premise contest with round bales and an off premise photo contest. Off premise contestants will decorate round or square bales and use farm related props to create a display based on the 2010 State Fair theme "Genuine Homegrown Fun." Three community groups will be selected for the on premise component which features 3 round bales strategically placed on the fairgrounds and also featuring the 2010 theme.

Off premise prizes are as follows: First Place $300, Second Place $200, and Third Place $100.

On premise contestants will be rewarded as follows: First Place $200, Second Place $100, and Third Place $50.
